Northern has one of the largest Special Education Departments in the city. There are approximately 300 students, 15 full and part-time teachers, 3 Special Needs Assistants and 2 Educational Assistants. We work closely with guidance counselors, vice-principals and Dale Callender with the Delisle Youth Services. We offer our Special Education-Learning Disabilities program (formally known as Core) and the Learning Strategies Program, which runs from grade 9 through to 12. Admission to SES-LD is a result of a Board placement at an IPRC. Students successful under Optional Attendance do not qualify for this program. Students who are currently in special education, following an Individual Education Plan (IEP) who are in district for Northern, qualify for Learning Strategies. Special education students who are successful under Optional Attendance can also qualify for this program. For more information about our programs, please see the attachments below.
